The independent CleanImplant Foundation uses high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and extensive elemental analysis to test dental implants and related systems and is internationally recognised as the benchmark for the purity and quality of implantable systems. Thanks to the new copaSKY 3.0

Slim, angled and ultra short – for more than 5 years, the copaSKY ultra short implant has proven itself on both a clinical and scientific level as ideal for restoration in patients with low bone height without augmentations. Even narrower gaps smaller than 6 mm can now be easily closed with copaSKY 3.0.

The copaSKY implant system offers the right implant for almost every clinical situation to make optimum use of the existing bone and protect the soft tissue thanks to a minimally invasive procedure. Implants can be successfully placed without extensive surgical intervention by inserting standard implants which are set at an angle of up to 35° and supplied with suitable abutments or ultra short copaSKY implants. With copaSKY 3.0, the system now also offers you solutions for narrow gaps and jaws with severe horizontal atrophy.

The copaSKY 3.0 implant

This implant is so narrow that it even fits into small gaps. With its small diameter of only 3 mm, it maintains all the properties that made the copaSKY implant family so successful:

  • High primary stability in all bone qualities for immediate restoration
  • Microstructured backtaper for crestal bone growth
  • Subcrestal implant position
  • Conical-parallel implant-abutment connection without clamping

Positive photobiological effect

Most attention was paid to ensuring implant stability while copaSKY 3.0 was developed. Despite the small diameter, all abutments achieve 80 % of the values obtained by regular copaSKY implants in the standard test as they are manufactured from pure Titanium Grade 4 KV with a mechanical stability of at least 800 MPa. Nevertheless, the restrictions on indications need to be observed:

  • No extensions, load must be applied via the implant axis
  • Individual crowns up to 6 mm size maximum
  • Angulations up to 18°
  • When combined, only as a mesial bridge retainer, including full-arch restorations

Standard copaSKY abutment connection

The implant abutment connection is the same as for all other copaSKY implants, i.e. all build-ups from the copaSKY product portfolio can be used with only minor limitations. Separate storage is not needed for copaSKY 3.0 and copaSKY 3.0 can therefore also be easily included in larger restorations with other copaSKY implants without the risk of mixing them up.

The new narrow copaSKY 3.0 implants with their suitable, high, tapered build-ups provide sufficient space for soft tissue even in confined spaces. This allows papillae to develop and soft tissue to attach, ensuring the restoration is protected for the long term. It is especially suitable for restoration after One-Time-Therapy, i.e. immediately with no abutment replacement, so that our patient leaves your practice with a smile on their face.

Dental laboratories need to rework CNC-milled telescopic crowns or bars by hand. Metals such as CoCr and titanium differ from cast alloys in terms of their properties in their raw form. As a result, manual post-machining with conventional tools is difficult to achieve a smooth surface in a short time.

bredent offers innovative approaches

The BlueLine parallel burs are adapted to the mechanical properties of CoCr and titanium metals. The specially developed toothing ensures effective manual post-machining. These tools are available in two versions: for use in milling machines up to 30,000 rpm (range REF 33000839) and for high-frequency milling machines up to 60,000 rpm (range 33000841). The set includes four tools, covering the range from super coarse to high-gloss processing. All tools can also be purchased separately.

BlueLine parallel burs up to 30,000 rpm are equipped with the time-tested Diatit surface treatment. The BlueLine HF parallel burs up to 60,000 rpm are not surface-hardened.

Master dental technician and laboratory owner Josef Miller: “The uncoated BlueLine HF parallel burs are particularly impressive for non-precious metals at a milling speed of 50,000 revolutions. As far as I’m concerned, there is no better product on the market. We’re able to observe a time saving of up to 50 percent in our lab.”

 

The BlueLine parallel bur

The combination between the high number of cutting edges and a flat twist angle* produces a high removal rate with extremely smooth running. This smooth running prevents chatter marks on the work piece, creating a high-gloss surface from the outset; post-machining is no longer necessary.

The burs also feature a Diatit surface treatment, which also helps to ensure smooth running and provide a high-gloss surface. The Diatit surface treatment also results in increased tool hardness, thus guaranteeing a long service life.

Conventional milling tools have a steeper twist angle*, leading to chatter marks, which require extensive post-machining.

The BlueLine high-frequency parallel bur

Conventional milling spindles operate at up to 30,000 rpm. However, increasingly more laboratories are using a conversion kit on their milling machine to provide a high-frequency milling spindle that operates at up to 60,000 rpm.

The special BlueLine HF bur set (HF = high frequency) with a special cutting edge geometry has been developed for these high-frequency milling spindles. This high speed bur set creates high surface qualities and a completely smooth surface, which is particularly important for the precision required for CAD/CAM work.

A Diatit surface treatment would not produce an optimal surface at these speeds and is therefore not used.

Master dental technician and laboratory owner Claus Küchler (developer of the Telemaster system) assisted bredent during the development phase of new parallel burs for telescopic technology. After a year of testing, the results were conclusive: “We use non-precious metals almost exclusively as the material for our telescopic technology and work with a milling machine at 50,000 rpm. It became evident that bredent’s new burs cut exceptionally fast with a smooth surface and low thermal variation. The very long service life is also worth mentioning. Our verdict: excellent everyday usability, parallel burs with a long service life.”

With Luxor Z True Nature, Dental Concept Systems (DCS) is offering the first zirconium dioxide that combines infinitely variable gradients in colour, translucency and strength. With the Luxor SinterSAFE sintered beads, the Luxor FurnaceFRESH cleaning powder and the Luxor ThermoTRACKER PTCR rings, bredent provides the perfect complementary materials for greater process reliability and thus greater cost efficiency in dental laboratories.

Luxor SinterSAFE

Before sintering, the milled restorations are embedded into the Luxor SinterSAFE sintered beads. As Luxor Z sintered beads are made from zirconium oxide instead of aluminium oxide, they have a longer service life. The beads will turn a matt colour after a long period of use. Users know when the beads need to be replaced as white dots appear at the contact points between the beads and the restorations. The reliable colour changes in the beads alert the user that the beads need to be changed.


Luxor FurnaceFRESH

White zirconium oxide works are infiltrated with suitable dyes prior to sintering. These dip paints contain additives that cause long-term damage to furnaces in the event of fire. DCS offers a solution to this problem with Luxor FurnaceFRESH. Users pour the cleaning powder into the sinter bowl. The subsequent cleaning fire will remove contaminants from the device.


Luxor ThermoTRACKER

The Luxor ThermoTRACKER Power Temperature Control Rings (PTCR rings for short) provide the user with information about the actual end temperature in the sintering furnace. The rings that are sintered shrink during the process. The outer diameter is then measured with a digital calliper and compared with the enclosed table, providing users with information about the current sintering temperature.


Spot Clip

When working with a conventional artery clamp, there is always the problem that the holding area is obscured by the clamp’s contact surface. The solution for this problem is: Spot Clip. This clamp only covers a minuscule area of the work. The glaze mass can be applied around the clamp holding point. When the Spot Clip is removed, there are no imperfections in the area where the work was held. The Spot Clip also makes it easier to apply paint. The colours do not fade and there is no need to subsequently apply the colours in the area where the clamp held things in place. This ensures an even glaze is produced. The Spot Clip is available with and without support ring.

With the brePRINT material series, bredent has developed a range for the essential application areas of dental 3D printing. This underscores the company’s philosophy of 360-degree dental expertise and complete care for users from a single provider. 

In recent years, bredent has conducted research into additive manufacturing, so that it is able to offer certified 3D printing materials for products without medical approval. New 3D resins are constantly being introduced onto the dental market, especially for model production. With the growing number of resins, it is often a challenge for laboratories to select the right material for their particular 3D printer and application. CAD/CAM experts, such as master dental technician and Managing Director Lars Schäfer of Axio Dent, recommend using dental-specific 3D printing materials in dental laboratories. In line with this widely held viewpoint, bredent was able to develop various 3D printing materials tailored to different user needs. These cutting-edge solutions are now available for purchase. Lars Schäfer: “While I was printing, I noticed that there is virtually no demixing when you deposit the material for a short time. We work with a wide range of materials and use our printers mainly for trays and bite registrations. If you set the tray aside briefly in the lab, you have a very high deposit on the material that you have used so far. The surface becomes oily and a white deposit forms on the bottom of the plastic surface. In such cases, these materials often need to be thoroughly remixed, which can be time-consuming. This certainly doesn’t happen to us with brePRINT materials.”  

01 Master Model

The 01 Master Model is  suitable for blunt models, models for metal cast frameworks, implant models, opposing models and master models (see full indications in the list above). The material excels thanks to precise results, scratch resistance and optimum strength with equally high bending strength. The 01 Master Model is safe in its use, guarantees ultra-low shrinkage and provides an insulating surface against PMMA. It has a density of 1.06 g/cm³ and a bending strength of 100 MPa. The 01 Master Model is available in the colours “sand” and “light grey”.

01 Classic Model

The 01 Classic Model is suitable for both blunt and opposing models (please refer to the list on p.1 for complete indications). This material also delivers excellent results with the utmost precision. Its characteristics also include short printing times, a smooth surface, heat resistance, high bending strength and low shrinkage. The density of 01 Classic Model is 1.04 g/cm³ with a bending strength of 96 MPa. This material is available in the colours “sand” and “light grey”.

Lars Schäfer: “The Classic material is really impressively fast to print and boasts an exceptionally good surface. The Master Model material offers excellent application quality in all areas. I‘d recommend this material for models on which implant or combination work needs to be produced at a later stage. Master Model draws incredibly beautifully.”

03 Dental Cast

bredent offers the 03 Dental Cast for crowns, bridges, inlays and models for metal cast frameworks (please see complete indications on page 1 of the list). Heat-resistant and suitable for press ceramics, the resin ensures a custom fit and guarantees residue-free combustion. The 03 Dental Cast is also easy to handle during casting and pressing, has a low shrinkage and has an insulating effect against PMMA. The material boasts a density of 1.05 g/cm³ and a bending strength of 78 MPa. 03 Dental Cast is available in purple. Lars Schäfer assisted bredent with the Dental Cast material during the test phase: “Dental Cast was produced from the printer with superb resolution and very fine detail. It also exhibited flawless surface quality and printability.”

bredent continues to develop BioHPP – material and product enhancements for greater process reliability in dental laboratories

  • bredent is setting new standards for the established material BioHPP (PEEK-based high-performance plastic): BioHPP granulate and pellets with optimised material properties are available on the market for the bredent for2press system. Experts in the field have also further developed the milling blanks (breCAM.BioHPP) for digital use. 
 
  • breCAM.BioHPP milling blanks are now also available on the dental market in a “gum-coloured” look – in gingiva-shade. This colour variant is especially suitable for secondary frameworks with transpalatal arches and is now also compatible with digital processing.
 

The BioHPP granulate and pellets are available on the market with optimised material properties for the bredent for2press system. Designed for digital processing, the milling blanks (breCAM.BioHPP) have also been enhanced to a new standard. Thanks to the valuable experience gained from users, the visio.lign system and BioHPP are now perfectly matched. The modulus of elasticity has been adapted in the same way as visio.lign (>4,600 Mpa) to ensure greater patient safety and optimum user-friendliness. Furthermore, an adhesive bond >20 MPa is achieved for the combo.lign fastening composite as indicated in EN ISO 10477. BioHPP is a physiological, biocompatible high-performance plastic with the optimal balance between elasticity and rigidity, weight and fracture resistance, as well as physiology and plaque neutrality. It is suitable for crown caps and veneer bridge frameworks for composite veneers and telescopic primary and tertiary structures.

 

From now on, PEEK-based restorations can also be manufactured using digital processing thanks to the new, gum-coloured breCAM.BioHPP gingiva-shade milling blanks. Dental technicians save time and obtain optimum process reliability as a result of the standardised manufacturing processes in the digital realm. This gum-coloured appearance makes this product ideal for secondary frameworks with a transpalatal arch with the colour creating a natural look. The History of Dentures – How it All Began

Dental problems have been around since man had teeth. So have toothaches, which everyone who has ever had them knows are among the worst of all.1

As early as 14,000 years ago, people tried to remove caries from teeth and plug the holes. Teeth that have fallen out or been extracted have been tried to be adequately replaced with various kind of materials over this period until today in order to put a smile back on the patient’s face, to restore phonetics or generally to restore the function of chewing.1,2,3

Long before we started talking about fixation dentures or zirconia ceramic crowns, the ancient Etruscans (8th-1st century BC) developed a true mastery in replacing missing teeth. Dentures were found in their tombs, which were not only intended for aesthetic restoration of incomplete dental ridges, but were also used for chewing. Materials used in this type of prosthetics were of human or animal origin. Broad gold threads or bands were used to connect one or more teeth and were anchored to the prosthesis like a bridge. Then, as now, the patients own teeth provided the necessary support.2,3

Backtaper - The evolution of Platform-Switch

The platform-switch has proven itself in modern implant systems. The Backtaper is now an additional element which gives the hard and soft tissue more space for attachment than the cylindrical and conical implant shapes as the illustration clearly demonstrates.

Subcrestal positioning

Clinical experience has shown that the additional space created by the backtaper, could be increased by subcrestal positioning of the copaSKY implant. The slim concave-shaped abutments provide more space for soft tissue attachment and bone growth on the backtaper. This has been confirmed in a recent multicenter clinical study.

Microstructured surface

The microstructured surface of the backtaper supports the attachment of bone and connective tissue. When the edge of the backtaper is positioned subcrestally, there is the possibility of depositing bone chips on it, thereby preventing the ingrowth of soft tissue and offering additional support for osseointegration. Thanks to the minimalist design of the cover screw, the peri-implant tissue around the backtaper is not irritated during re-opening. Any new bone formed on the anodized cover screw can be easily removed with a sharp excavator.

Impressive clinical results

The results observed by the clinicians are persuasive. Regardless of the clinical indication,
new bone formation can be observed, from single-tooth restoration to the rehabilitation of edentulous jaws according to the SKY fast & fixed therapy. The vertical dimension of the alveolar ridge is preserved through the newly formed bone on the backtaper because there is reduced indication for bone levelling.
